What are ACDB/ DCDB Boxes?

ACDB and DCDB boxes are critical for safe electricity use because they serve as circuit breakers when uncontrolled energy or an increased power surge flows through the electric wires and to the distribution board
ACDB stands for Alternating Current Distribution Box. It is installed between the solar inverter and your home appliances. Among all the components of an ACDB box, two are the primary ones.
1. AC Surge Protection Device (SPD) protects against power surges, by earthing the high voltage.
2. AC MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) for low circuit current or AC Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) for high circuit current, trips and breaks the circuit in case of high voltage.
DCDB stands for Direct Current Distribution box and is installed between the solar panels and the inverter. This box protects your solar inverter and panels from high voltage and short circuits.
A DCDB box contains a DC SPD to protect against surges, a DC MCB, and a fuse that breaks the circuit in case of high voltages. Both ACDB and DCDB boxes are made using waterproof and dust-resistant material which makes them secure and durable. While purchasing these junction boxes, one has to make sure that the product comes with a weatherproof IP65 casing.

"All energy is ultimately derived from the sun, and harvesting it directly through solar power seems to be the best way to transition to renewable energy.”
Peter Rive

Single Phase and Three Phase Junction Boxes:

When you explore these devices, you will come across phrases such as single phase and three phase. If the solar power system capacity is between 1kW to 6kW, it will require a single-phase ACDB and single-phase DCDB box.
A single-phase ACDB and DCDB box have a live wire and a neutral wire. A three-phase junction box on the other hand has three live wires and one neutral wire to adequately manage the higher voltage of the system.
